This is the part of a series chronicling the 2012 movies I’ve given an A+ grade to. Given the nature of international movie distribution, “2012” should be taken liberally. You can see a spreadsheet of all the movies I watch an rate in the description on my Tumblr.

“Lincoln” is one of those movies where everything is fucking great. The script is fucking great, the directing is fucking great, the acting is fucking great, the cinematography is fucking great, the makeup is fucking great, the music is fucking great, everything is just fucking great and really fucking great together. And that’s why this movie is fucking great.
But also, what has not been remarked upon enough is how “Lincoln” fits into Spielberg’s filmography. We see the same themes of father-son disagreements and dissonance, people struggling to find their place in the world. It’s really remarkable how this movie works so well on so many different levels.
